ABS Response to BSA Membership Policy Changes

August 7, 2015

Dear Pastor, Youth Minister, Deacon Chairman, and/or other church leadership:

Thank you for using the programs of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) as part of your outreach ministry to your community and congregation. Whether it has been through a Cub Scout Pack, a Boy Scout Troop, or a Venture Crew – or some combination of these – I trust that you have seen lives changed and families brought into your church through that ministry.

I'm sure you've seen or heard news articles or other information regarding the action of the BSA on July 27 to revise its policy with regard to its adult leader membership standards. In short, they have fully placed into your hands, as a religious chartered partner, the right to select your adult BSA leaders on the basis of your congregation's beliefs and moral standards. ... more

Joe Yoke

January 6, 2016

Joe Yoke

We are saddened to report the "graduation" of a long-time servant of God and minister to youth - Mr. Joe Yoke. May his life and works be a continuing inspiration to us all. From our perspective, "well done...."

Joe Yoke passed away on Wednesday, December 30, at his home in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 9, at his beloved Balboa Baptist Church in Hot Springs Village.
Joe was a beloved husband for 50 years as w...ell as exemplary father and grandfather. After exemplary service in local Scout councils, he became Associate Director of the Relationships Division of the Boy Scouts of America with primary responsibility for Baptist Scouting. His passionate support for the mission of the Association of Baptists for Scouting started long before his staff assignment at the national office and continued after his retirement. He was responsible for the ABS exhibit at the past two National Scout Jamborees where the lives of many Scouts and Scouters were positively impacted by his team of volunteers.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Yoke family at this time of great loss.
